How does an NFC business card work?

NFC explained simply: how a physical card opens your digital card, and what to know before using it

The principle

NFC is a very short-range contactless technology, the same family as contactless payment. A chip built into the card holds a link to your digital card

When you hold the card against the back of a compatible phone, it reads the link and opens your card in its browser. No scan, no app to install

Which phones it works with

It works with recent iPhones and with Android phones equipped with NFC. If NFC is disabled or missing, the QR Code printed on the card opens the same page

What happens when your information changes

The chip does not hold your contact details, only a link. You edit your digital card from your workspace, and the same physical card always opens the up-to-date version

Tips for use

Hold the card near the top of the phone and wait a second. Remove a thick or metallic case if reading fails. Always keep the QR Code as a fallback
